No sign of Jimmy Big Hands...

Sigh of relief here. Doctor Who, sorry, DoctAAARRRRR Who is quite good when Moffat isn't vomiting his smug, self satisfied face into your eyes.

Billy Big Beard, or Hugh Bonneville's character - whatever his name was - struck me as decidedly... un-piratey at first, but I soon put that aside because he was a good character overall. And he had a BEARD. I liked the constant beard worship that went on in this episode. And the Doctor gets a HAT! Briefly. Amy was pretty kick-ass in this episode, too. The whole look and style of everything was nicely done - the CGI is looking smooth and finely tuned now - a well oiled machined after five years, I suppose.
Loved the dialogue and especially the captain and the doctor having their 'who's the better captain' dick measuring contest.
EPIC BEARD WORSHIP. XD

A few gripes - How many fucking times does Rory have to die? THREE TIMES NOW! Once in Amy's Choice. Once in Cold Blood and now again here. Should have been Amy, just to even it out a bit.
I really, REALLY do not like Eleven's new shirts.
Something in the mirror - something can COME OUT OF THE WATER!?! Hmm, a little similar to the whole 'something in the corner of your eye' shtick.
Why weren't the Doctor, Amy and Billy put on a table like the others?

Things that I'm not sure how to feel about... Emergency Medical Hologram? Seriously? I mean, it was a good twist story-wise. But... Meh, I'll let it go. I do like it when a Who monster has a legitimately benevolant motivation, yet gets it kind of wrong. Reminded me a bit of the nanogenes from The Empty Child... Hmm... MOFFAT!!! *shakes fist*
Pirates flying a space ship... Space Pirates? It'd be neat if they turned out to be the ancestors of the space pirates from... The Space Pirates (a Second Doctor Story from his 3rd series)
The music was kind of cheesy, but I'm willing to let it slide.
That siren pulled weird faces.

Next week... The little white box from The War Games! Oooohh! It's the Neil Gaiman episode. Looks neat-o. With Moar TARDIS interior?? Possibly? And Green Ood!

It has been brought to my attention that Hugh Bonneville's character was called "captain Avory". In the First Doctor's story "The Smugglers" (filmed, like this one, in Cornwall), there was mention of "Cpatain Avory's cursed gold"... OoooOOoooHh! :D

Lily Cole in Doctor Who? Weird.

The dead lads aboard the space ship were interesting looking.

But where did mister angry brows go after Toby cut him? Don't recall seeing him after that.

And they really should stop killing Rory.

Btw. watched the first two stories of Tom Baker time. Everything else feels quite like what I'm used to, but the action... is... well... bad. People waiting for quite long to be struck by something. :s

Yes, angry eye brows vanishes without a trace - lots of people noticed that. This is why Who needs a new script editor because Moffat is clearly not up to the job. :\

Poor Rory. :(

Yeah, that's down to a) poor direction and b) many episodes under ran so they had to push some scenes to be longer. You have to admit that Tom's character is great. THE EYES!!
You may be A Doctor, but I am THE Doctor. The definite article, you might say.

Tom is great and I like how THE Doctor seems to use his environment to his advantage more than pretty much everyone.
But he is quite scary with the eyes and the gaping mouth sometimes. Hrr.

My mother made the exact same comment about the Empty Child. At least Moffat took a couple of years to bring the same sort of thing back around.

Yeah, that doesn't bother me so much. Five years is long enough to leave between similar themes.

I wonder how many people actually noticed the similarities...

SO MANY MENTIONS OF BEARDS.

idk, I wasn't much of a fan of this episode. It wasn't bad, but nothing particularly struck me. I felt the ending/explanation could have done with some tightening up.

Good catch with the Smugglers connection!

IT'S BEARDMAGEDDON!!

I probably wouldn't call it a fantastic episode, but it was enjoyable and a nice change from the 'OooOooh MYSTERY! NOTICE THE MYSTERY!!!' of the last two.

It was pointed out by BlogtorWho. ;)

It was fun, and at least it all happened within a linear timeframe, thank god! But next week looks... idk. AMAZING???

YES! And those scenes ARE inside the TARDIS, by the way! WE GET TO SEE MOAR TARDIS INTERIOR!!! OMG OMG! WHY AM I SO EXCITED BY THIS!?!

BlogtorWho does commentaries for each episode and he's got nicknames for different characters. The Silence were "Jimmy Big Hands", the little girl was "Little Anne Astronaut" and Captain Avory was "Billy Big Beard." I suggested he calls the OMINOUS VOICE in the next episode "Barry Big Voice" I hope he does.
